Visit Matricolandosi to find updated procedures, deadlines, and financial opportunities and manage your admission process to the degree program easily and safely.

To enroll in the Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, you are required to take an assessment test (TOLC-AV), as provided for by current regulations, which does not, however, prevent enrollment in the relevant degree programs.

  • Check the TOLC-AV calendar for the dates of the TOLC you are interested in; you may register for those marked as OPEN FOR REGISTRATION.
If there are no dates available yet in the TOLC calendar, places are full, or registrations are closed at the University of Pisa, you may take the TOLC at a different university. In fact, the TOLC may be taken at any university, and you may use the scores obtained in the TOLC-AV for all degree programs that require it (watch the tutorial The advantages of the TOLC).
  • For more information on registering for the test, consult the TOLC-AV page.
  • The knowledge required for the TOLC-AV is listed on the following page: https://www.cisiaonline.it/tematic_area_agri/il-test/syllabus/

Useful study materials for preparing for the assessment test

CISIA provides sample tests (https://www.cisiaonline.it/tematic_area_agri/allenamento/) and a simulation with the same structure and duration as CISIA tests (https://allenamento.cisiaonline.it/utenti_esterni/login_studente.php).

Structure and assessment of the test

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the University of Pisa is part of the Interuniversity Consortium for Integrated Access Systems (CISIA), and in particular uses the test provided by CISIA for degree programs in Agricultural Sciences. The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (only one correct answer among those provided for each question), divided into 6 sections (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Logic, Italian language comprehension). Each section has a predetermined number of questions, and each section has a fixed time limit for completion. The table below shows the sections and the time available for each of them.

Section Number of questions Time allowed
Biology 8 questions 16 minutes
Chemistry 8 questions 16 minutes
Physics 8 questions 16 minutes
Mathematics 8 questions 16 minutes
Logic 8 questions 16 minutes
Verbal comprehension 2 passages (10 questions) 20 minutes

Each question has five possible answers, only one of which is correct. For each question, identifying the correct answer gives one point (1), while a wrong answer gives -1/4 of a point (-0.25). No score or penalty is assigned for unanswered or cancelled questions. The individual sections are considered passed when a score of at least 3 is obtained in each of them.

The teaching organization of the degree programs requires enrolling students to have adequate initial preparation, acquired during their previous studies.

For students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES:

If the Chemistry section of the assessment test is not passed, the student is assigned an Additional Learning Requirement (OFA), which may be fulfilled in one of the following ways:

  • by taking the TOLC-AV again and obtaining a minimum score of 3 in the Chemistry section;
  • by passing a basic Chemistry test. The first test is administered at the end of the “Basic Chemistry” course.

To help students with an OFA, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Chemistry has been made available.

Exemption from the knowledge assessment: in the event that an application for transfer or change from other degree programs at the University of Pisa or other universities is accepted, students who did not take the assessment test in their original program or who are not considered eligible for transfer to Agricultural Sciences and are therefore not exempt from passing the test are assigned OFAs directly. If the student took an assessment test in their original degree program, the Council will evaluate whether OFAs should be assigned.
